'NEVER EVENTS' AND THEIR IMPACT ON HEALTH CARE STAKEHOLDERS

Preventable medical errors are costing employers almost $1.5 billion annually. A report by the U.S. government’s Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reviewed more than 161,000 patient records and found that 10% of surgery-related deaths are caused by medical errors that could have been prevented. Benjamin Hoffman, MD, spoke about these issues, focusing on DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), keynoted EHCA's December 3, 2008, forum on "Never Events" and their impact on health care stakeholders.
